If You Don’t Learn the Lesson, Life Will Keep Teaching You

It’s no secret that I’ve been less than healthy for years now. I have low energy, chronic pain, and a less than ideal mental state because of the way I feel physically. For the past couple of years, I’ve been ignoring all the texts and calls from my body telling me that I needed to get it together. It was sending me warning signs that I was getting worse, and I wasn’t listening. And now? I have no choice but to listen. I can’t ignore it anymore. I’m being forced to take time to take care of myself and get my body in order. Because my energy levels are shorter, my pain tolerance is weakening, and my body is demanding attention.

Life is like that. We’re given all kinds of experiences with the opportunity for learning but we don’t always seize them. I think maybe life will force us to go through experiences until we learn the lesson.

I can’t pretend to have all the answers. I can’t pretend that I even believe the answers are out there. But one thing I have finally learned is that we only get one body. We only get this one amazing vessel and we should take care of it. After all, if you don’t take care of your body…where will you live?

I think it’s time to stop viewing situations in life as setbacks. It’s time to stop looking at the glass half empty and embrace the situations that we find ourselves in. I’m not sure what I believe. I’m not sure I believe that everything happens for a reason or that there’s some overarching plan for our lives. But what I do believe is that where we are right now…is exactly where we’re supposed to be. It doesn’t mean you have to stay here forever or even until next week. But right now, you’re here. So let’s find the best parts of now.

And next time life tries to tell you something…listen.

“I don’t see the glass half-empty or half-full.  I try to see the glass for what it is; a glass of water. Sure, I could have more, I could have less, but when I look at it from a ‘how much’ perspective I forget to appreciate the glass of water that I have.”

  1. I needed to read this, so thank you for tapping into my psyche and putting into the words exactly how I am feeling these days. It is so very much appreciated.

I would love your feedback.
