You Can’t Fix Yourself by Breaking Someone Else

We all have insecurities. Some of us have more than others. Some of us feel as if we’re worth nothing. We feel as if our entire existence is useless and we constantly search for a purpose in life. We look at others around us; others who seem so poised. They have it all together. They have a plan. They radiate self-assurance. Deep down we are truly jealous of people like this. Instead of admiring this person our mind promptly turns to disdain.

You cannot stand this person. Where do they get off being so sure of themselves? What about them is so great? How come they have it together, meanwhile you struggle each day with your self-image?

You strain to find flaws with this person in an attempt to make yourself feel better.

“Well at least I didn’t get a D on that test. HA.”
“Whatever, her hair was totally frizzy yesterday.”
“His physique may be perfect but he’s obviously not smart.”

You can’t fix yourself by breaking someone else. You can’t look to the flaws of others to overcome the flaws you find within yourself.

Making someone else feel bad only welcomes negativity into your mind. Cutting other people down only makes you less beautiful.

I see this happen all the time and I have been the perpetrator more times than I’d like to admit.

It’s time to stop looking for the flaws in others to achieve self-assurance within myself.

So the next time I see someone who appears to have it all together; I won’t immediately begin to search for flaws. I’ll admire them for being able to achieve what so many of us wish we could.
