Every time I meet a new person in the states it’s always…”Oh so what do you want to do when you graduate?”
I learned very quickly that saying “I have no idea…” isn’t the correct answer. People expect you to know what you want to do for the rest of your life.
It’s no different in Australia.
While here, I have met countless students and staff from all over the world.
“Hey, I’m ___, what’s your name?”
“Hello, I’m Lara! Great to meet you.”
“What are you studying Lara?”
“I’m studying a bit of public relations, a bit integrated marketing.”
“Oh. What do you want to do when you graduate?”
Insert long pause here.
I have absolutely no idea what I want to do when I graduate. There. I said it.
I assume of course that I will continue on with public relations in my professional career…but I just DON’T know.
And no matter how many times you ask me, I still won’t know. I haven’t found the magical answer that everyone else seems to have figured out…and I think that’s okay.
